Healthy Families is an intensive home visiting program that prevents child abuse and neglect by cultivating and strengthening nurturing parent-child interactions, promoting healthy childhood outcomes and development, and enhancing family functioning and self-sufficiency.
Healthy Families provides weekly home visiting services during which workers demonstrate and educate parents on how to improve their nurturing skills, do activities which promote child development, create a safe home environment and promote the health of all family members. We also provide transportation to prenatal and well-baby appointments and offer emergency assistance for supplies such as diapers, wipes and formula as needed.
This program is free and voluntary to first time mothers of any age. We also help teen parents, mothers with multiple children, fathers and Spanish-speaking families. It's offered intensively and long term --prenatally through the child's fifth birthday.
Healthy Families utilizes an evidence-based home visiting model and evidence-based Parents as Teachers curriculum. This program is also nationally accredited, which means the program has high standards for staff competency, quality implementation and outcomes.
